Palin Book Tour

R U Lovin’ Sarah’s Alaska?
From governor to TV star.
NOV 29, 2010, VOL. 16, NO. 11 • BY MATT LABASH

Just how Sarah is Sarah Palin’s Alaska, her new hit reality show on the TLC network? It’s soooo flippin’ Sarah, as Sarah would say. And it’s soooo Alaska, which Palin pronounces “A-LASK-ahhhh.” She repeats this on the show over and over again, as though we might forget where she’s from otherwise. She says it in that chirpy honk that, to her legions of fans, represents the music of Mom, apple pie, and flyover country. To her legions of enemies, it is the sound of gum smacking and syntax breaking. As Palin intones in the show’s opening, “A-LASK-ahhhh—I love this state like I love my family.” Except that she didn’t give her family up after governing it for two-and-a-half years, so that she could get a Fox News contract, and make 100 grand per speech [emphasis added], and write two books in a year, and drag her entire family onto a tacky reality show.

Clueless from Wasilla, Sarah Palin is the actress with the tired one trick pony act: “Look at me!” She exudes that oh sincere authenticity, the coin of electronic politics. Following World War I, there was another woman who seduced the imagination of the credulous American public. Evangelist was another phony.

She’s been written out of many history books, but Aimee Semple McPherson was one of the most famous female evangelists in the world. Described as “dynamic, irrepressible, and complex,” she’s been called the “most tragic figure in America.” At the same time, she satisfied Americans’ needs for spiritual satisfaction, sensationalism, and sex appeal.

As Sarah Comstock wrote in Harper’s in 1926:

“You may believe Aimee Semple McPherson to be a messenger direct from God Almighty to save His erring world. Or you may believe her to be the most unblushing fraud in the public eye today. Some do one, some the other; and there is every shade of opinion in between. But the one fact that stands out is that her influence is incredible, that it carries as that of few evangelists has ever carried, that she is to-day one of the most amazing phenomena of power in this feverish, power-insane United States.”

She Who Must Not Be Named

Published: December 3, 2010

This is it. This is the last time I’m going to write the name Sarah Palin until she does something truly newsworthy, like declare herself a candidate for the presidency. Until then, I will no longer take part in the left’s obsessive-compulsive fascination with her, which is both unhealthy and counterproductive.

She’s the Zsa Zsa Gabor of American politics. She once did something noteworthy, but she’s now just famous for being famous.

She was a vice presidential nominee. But she lost. She was the governor of Alaska. But she quit. Now she’s just a political personality — part cheerleader, part bomb-thrower — being kept afloat in part by the hackles of her enemies and the people who admire her resilience in the face of them. The left’s outsize and unrelenting assault on her has made her a folk hero. The logic goes that if she’s making people on the left this upset, she must be doing something right.

Palin book signing brings out the faithful
Gina Smith

About 600 people lined up at a Northeast Richland bookstore this evening waiting to get some face time with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

The latest leg of Palin’s national book tour drew fans from neighboring states and Midlands admirers who stood in long lines over two days for the opportunity to have Palin sign their books. That number included Frank Peloquin of West Columbia, who camped out Tuesday night to get one of 500 wristbands issued for the event.

“She comes across as such a normal person with a lot of common sense,” said Peloquin. “I like outsiders like her who can go in and raise a little hell.”

Peloquin and other Palin fans hope her visit to South Carolina is an indication of her desire to run for president in 2012. Palin is among a long list of Republicans thought to be positioning themselves for a chance to take on President Obama.

Philip Stanley hopes Palin becomes a candidate. The retired dentist drove three hours from Asheville even though he did not have a wristband. He stood outside with a handmade sign that said “Run, Sarah, Run.”

“She is Ronald Reagan in a skirt,” said Stanley. “Government is not our friend. Government is the problem. Let us keep the money in our pockets and we will make America great again.”

The below described pull string doll had a bigger repertoire of knowledge than Palin. Their intellect is about the same.
“Chatty Cathy is a doll manufactured by the Mattel toy company from 1959 to 1965. The doll was first released in stores and appeared in television commercials beginning in 1960. Chatty Cathy celebrates her 50th birthday in 2010; it is unclear at present whether Mattel plans to make note of the occasion.
Revolutionary for its time, Chatty Cathy spoke one of eleven phrases at random when the “chatty ring” protruding from its upper back was pulled. The ring was attached to a string connected to a simple low-fidelity phonograph record in the doll’s abdomen. The record was driven by a metal coil wound by pulling the toy’s string. The doll said 11 phrases when she came on the market in 1960 such as “I love you” or “Please take me with you”. Seven more phrases such as, “Let’s play School” or “May I have a cookie” were added to the doll’s repertoire in 1963 for a total of 18 phrases.”

sarah palin is another example of the dumbing down of the republican party. the first lady is trying to promote nutrition and healthy eating habits for school children. palin actually brung a cookie to a speech to mock the first lady. yeah, sarah lets promote obesity and junk food for our kids, give me a break.

Who works out more, Palin or Michelle Obama? Palin promotes exercise and running and eating healthy constantly. It’s a conservative thing though where the latest craze is “keep your hand out of my cookie jar.”
Quite frankly, I think it’s ridiculous too. I’m glad I could have cookies in school. Kids don’t work anymore, that’s the problem. Sit and play video games all day.

the best health care system is an healthy lifestyle, lets prevent health problems from happening that saves millions, childhood obesity causes-diabetes and heart problems later in life. this is common sense. as far as who works out more-i dont care i look at who has the best ideas for americans, another example of getting of topic dont kill the messanger.

It is amusing how so many who say they think Sarah Palin is stupid and useless can’t quit talking about her. She clearly scares a lot of people on the left and it is comical to watch them squirm and look for ways to criticize her. For such a “nothing” person, she sure attracts a lot of attention.

Scares a lot of people to the left? LMAO! Sara Palin is the best friend the left ever had. Run Sara run!

Roger Webb Yesterday 11:33 PM in reply to Pooledaddy
If the left really thought Palin a week stick, they would be building her up so she would run, then Obama could cream her in the general.
And as we all know that is not happening. The liberals are leaving all the other potential GOP Prez candidates alone. And what does that say?

Pooledaddy Yesterday 10:35 PM
Democrats are drooling at the thought of Palin as the ’12 Republican challenger to Barack Obama. This would all but assure a landslide Obama victory.

Carmel – Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin returned to central Indiana Thursday for her second book signing in a little more than a year.

Palin was in her element. With daughters Willow and Piper,  Palin is part rock star, part inspiration “It was really cool,” says Kristin Doring of Chicago.

The question of the hour is will she run in 2012.

“I expect her to be a contender,” said one teen on line, a line that stretched outside.

One woman said “I would be here if it was 20 degrees.” Another, carrying a toddler said “It’s totally worth it, isn’t it.”

The line stretched and snaked through several aisles of the store.

The Kristin Doring was at the front of the line. She arrived in Carmel more than 20 hours prior to the book signing. She made the trip from Chicago. She said, with tears in her eyes: “Such a good role model I want to be just like her when I’m older.”

Nathan McGuire of LaPorte said “I just really want to meet Sarah Palin. I think she’s great.”

But was it worth a three hour drive? For Matt Smith it was a Christmas present for wife Keli who said “I got a Christmas card for her with a little letter inside.”

Palin’s new book is number two on the bestseller list, behind former President George Bush new book.

“She knows the Constitution and mentions a lot of documents,” says Chuck Findley reading the book while in line.

Palin’s book tour takes her to critical GOP primary states like Indiana, Ohio and South Carolina with two trips to Iowa. “(I) definitely want her to run for President some day,” says an admirer.

Blair Smith of Indianapolis says “She’s down to earth. Not like stereotypical politicians.”

Her friend Jodi Hutner says “I would support anyone in the Republican party but absolutely Sarah Palin, sure.”

But is she ready to lead?

“I think she probably could be, but I think she needs more experience,” says Chuck Findley of Zionsville, a 1992 Ross Perot supporter, who likes this new maverick. “She’s very outspoken about her belief and reflect a great sincerity.”

WTHR is a REPUBLICAN TV station. They only only good things about Republicans. Like so call no name Palin. But they don’t have the balls to report on Cheney bribery charges. That is NEWS Palin book is NOT NEWS. OH WAIT A minute. NBC is going to be owned by comcast which is owned by the owner of FOXNEWS. WTHR new call letters is now FOXNEWS. PALIN does not know crap about the Constittuion. Plus she don’t the guts to run this country right. Hell BUSH didn’t run it right. McCain said we would still be in IRAQ for 100 years. Palin is nothing but white trash.

For a political story, this is like the blind leading the blind… To the writer of this story and headline; The woman is on a NATIONAL book tour, and this is the SECOND stop in IOWA (first in the nation) and you don’t get ONE hint from that set of clues??? Apparently some people need guide dogs, a white cane and someone pulling them by the hand to escort them on the path to knowledge. Combined with her high profile across the nation, her appearance here in September at the GOP fund raiser, etc., I am PRETTY sure she is expressing her ambitions. Its called deductive reasoning, give it a shot. You betcha!!!

She quit her governorship after 2 1/2 years. I wonder if she will quit the book signings, as she is getting close to her 2 1/2 year limit on that too.

This woman is dumber than a box of rocks. Bush may have been an idiot, but at least he finished University (though he treated the Presidency like some unwelcome homework assignment).
This womans record of academic achievement wouldn’t qualify her as a Walmart greeter, and yet some America hating idiots (how else can you describe the behavior of someone who would willing entrust the security of the free world to one so clearly unqualified) would see her a President, as if 8 years of rule by the stupid and greedy wasn’t disastrous enough.
If you support her, you too are an IDIOT.
I almost wish you could live in a world where she was in charge, your stupidity deserves nothing less, but giving you your just deserts isn’t worth sacrificing the nation…

We already had a President that was not running the country, and did not have enough brainpower to know he as a clown for the people who used him to wreck this country. That said, I hope Sarah runs, she is the easiest opponent to defeat and will throw the Repub process into one giant pickle.

Why Does the Media Love to Pick On Palin?

By John Lott
Published November 30, 2010 |

The media just loves to hate Sarah Palin. And, if polls are to be believed, the constant media bombardment has hurt her standing among many independents.

Unfortunately, over the last couple of weeks, even conservative media pundits such as Mona Charen, Peggy Noonan, George Will, Joe Scarborough and Matt Labash see these attacks and warn that she can’t win the presidency. They even buy into the attacks on her judgment, intelligence, and competence. But what these conservatives don’t appreciate is that Palin is being attacked because she is smart and effective, not because she is dumb.

For just how far off base her coverage by the media has been, consider the reaction when Sarah Palin, a Fox News contributor and former Alaska governor, last Wednesday accidentally referred to North Korea as an ally. It was an obvious slip of the tongue and she corrected the trivial gaffe immediately in her very next sentence. The local, national, and even international news coverage was massive, making the trivial error front-page news. A Google news search finds 834 separate news stories run just that day alone.

This is just the surface of the attacks. The media started attacking Palin as soon as she was nominated by John McCain to be vice president and they have continued ever since. Tina Fey’s performances on “Saturday Night Live” got people to actually believe that Palin really did claim she could see Russia from her house.

The attacks have continued unabated. On Nov. 19, just days before the media coverage about the North Korea slip, she was being inaccurately attacked for supposedly being unable to name her favorite founding father, with one MSNBC commentator sarcastically pleading with Republicans to nominate Palin for president. In fact, Palin said that her favorite founding father was “George Washington,” for his ability to give up the trappings of power and not making himself a king.

No other Republican gets even remotely similar treatment. One can systematically go through news coverage on this. A Factiva news search covers only a fraction of the news sources covered by Google news, relying more on major news outlets, but it does a much better job of linking different words in a story.

Thus, in major news outlets, 194 news stories over the last month from Oct. 28 to Nov. 27 talked about Sarah Palin in the same paragraph that they used the words “extreme,” “dishonest,” “unpresidential,” “stupid,” “incompetent,” “gaffe,” or “dumb.” Fox News recently identified eleven other contenders — in addition to Palin — who will likely vie for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012. Those 11 candidates, combined, garnered 27 percent more news coverage than Palin, but had just 144 negative stories written about them.

Of course, Democrats are virtually immune from such coverage in the mainstream media. Barack Obama’s intelligence is never questioned, even though he refuses to disclose his college or law school grades, but the list of his gaffes are almost endless. Obama uses a TelePrompter for a reason. Take him telling supporters on May 9, 2008: “I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii . . . .” But a Google news search shows only six news stories mentioning the “57 states” mention over the first three days (virtually all in conservative publications) and only 14 after a week.

Since becoming president, Obama has called Europe a country. He misspelled the city of “Syracuse” twice, even though the word was spelled correctly next to where he was writing it. And he said that the Constitution was written “20 centuries” ago, the FBI was founded “100 days” ago when he meant 100 years, “Austrian” is a language, breathalyzers are used to treat asthma, and that he is working hard to “halt the rise of privacy”, not piracy. None of these cases got more than a few minor mentions in news stories in the months after the gaffe.

But slips of the tongue demonstrate neither a person’s intelligence nor their understanding of issues. Obama’s knowledge of economics is abysmal – his emphasis on higher tax rates and spreading wealth make the economy smaller. His health care regulations will cause people to be thrown off of private health insurance, raise costs, and lower quality.

Sarah Palin has been pointing out many of these problems before anyone else. On health care, she coined the term “death panels,” and the press attacked her mercilessly for it. But after Obamacare has become law, even Democrats, such as Paul Krugman, are now using the term, acknowledging that Obama care will empower government panels to make decisions on who will be allowed to get medical care.

Palin’s analysis of the economics of health care would make an economist proud. Take how Obamacare creates an incentive for people to wait until they needed care before they purchased health insurance. Banning any higher premiums for those who wait until they are sick to get insurance may be very bad public policy, but it is one part of Obama care that is extremely popular. Other Republicans have seen the polls and refused to discuss the problem, but Palin ignored the polls and made the right economic argument.

What Palin’s conservative critics need to recognize is that any other candidate who posed the same threat to Democrats would also be attacked as viciously. The desire to give up on Palin and move on to another potential Republican presidential nominee is understandable. But there is a reason why the media wants to take Palin out.
